Skatepark
Since June of 2006 a dedicated group of individuals calling themselves the Northfield Skateboard Coalition have been meeting on a weekly basis with the hopes of getting a skatepark in town for area youth. The Skateboard Coalition includes Northfield Healthy Community Initiative (HCI), The Northfield Union of Youth (The Key), The Mayor’s Youth Council, Youth Plus, and most importantly, local skateboarders. The meetings take place every Wednesday at 5:00pm at The Key. The Coalition has made much headway and recently were received by Northfield’s Park Board with much enthusiasm. We are still attempting to secure a location and are working on raising funds for the skatepark. We have benefit concerts, art fundraisers, t-shirts, and more local meetings in the works.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Get involved!! Come to our weekly meetings (Wed. 5:00 The Key). Join our email list to get our weekly minutes and know what is going on and when. Keep checking the website for updates. Tell your friends and family about us. Attend our fundraisers. Spread the word. We now how have wonderful t-shirts available for the public for $10 each. Come to The Key to buy a shirt. Look at the April 5th entry on the website if you wish to see a photo of what they look like. Available in many sizes and in red and mellow yellow.
The Coalition received a matching grant from Northfield Healthy Community Initiative (HCI) for up to $10,000 on October 2007. This matching grant ended on April 1, 2008 with the Coalition successfully meeting the challenge grant :

The Skateboard Coalition has a temporary skatepark approved along highway 3 in the lot by Culver’s. The pavement has been laid and the equipment (boxes, rails, etc.) are in the process of being assembled. They will be bolted in some time in mid July. A big thanks to the Common Good RSVP for gathering up some very important volunteers.
