November is Japanese month at The Key, and this Friday the Key will be playing Akira Kurosawa’s Yojimbo. This movie from 1961 stars the excellent Toshirō Mifune who plays Kuwabatake Sanjuro, a ronin who comes to a small village creating turmoil and mistrust. The movie was inspired by the John Ford westerns of the 40s and 50s and was a major influence on the Spaghetti Westerns of the early 60s (Yojimbo was remade as the Sergio Leone – Clint Eastwood film Fistful of Dollars in 1964) and has been remade numerous times (ever seen Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis?). There is a strong comedic current throughout the film, so don’t expect a serious samurai film. The film starts at 7:00 (this friday the 16th).
