Members of the Key’s Youth Board participated in the After the Headlines meeting (a “Response to Community Call-to-Action Meeting”) on March 5th from 4:00-6:00pm at the NCRC. This meeting was co-organized by The Northfield Union of Youth and the Mayor’s Task Force (with the grunt work handled by the Task Force and assistance from Northfield Healthy Community Initiative). Max Jennings of the Key co-facilitated with Joan Janusz of the MTF and representatives of The Key, Mayor’s Task Force, Healthy Community Initiative, Rice County Chemical Health, Rice County Sheriff, Northfield Police Department, Northfield Public Schools, Rice County Attorney’s Office, and Rice County Public Health were present. Organizational representatives shared accomplishments and gaps of the “action grid” and later broke into three groups and got creative with “visionary” activities, later sharing the results with the group.

Book Club is currently reading The Trial by Franz Kafka but since the previous Book Club offering, Into the Wild, is coming out on DVD on March 4th we had to watch it. Showtime will be 7:30 on Wednesday March 5th. This film is an excellent adaptation and an excellent movie to boot. This film was directed by Sean Penn and starring Emile Hirsch as Christopher McCandless/Alexander Supertramp, Marcia Gay Harden and William Hurt as Alex’s parents, Jena Malone as his sister, Catherine Keener as Jan Burres, Hal Holbrook as Ron Franz (in an Oscar nomination), and Vince Vaughn as Wayne Westerberg. This film was snubbed by the Academy, but hey what do they know? They gave Kim Basinger, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks (twice) and Driving Miss Daisy Oscar awards.
