The Key is starting a new college prep program and needs lots of help to get it going! The program is designed to help juniors and seniors in high school and above looking to apply for a college. The money would go towards helping applicants pay for any application fees. Amy Merritt (Adult Board Member) will be at the Key every Wednesday coordinating and helping applicants with essays, forms and eventually the dreaded FAFSA (see ‘College Prep’ post for more info). Show your support by coming to the Spaghetti Dinner on the 30th!

The Key has started its College Prep @ The Key program, which will take place every Wednesday at 7:00pm. There will be adult staff on hand to help guide students interested in attending college. Whether your questions involve which college is the best fit, financial aid, ACT/SAT scores, etc., knowing adults will be on hand to answer these questions. We will also offer individual “game plans” for students, which will help guide you through the steps of the process. So please show up and bring a friend. This program is especially meant for those who don’t see college in their future. We can help make it so. Anyone with questions should contact Program Coordinator Amy Merritt at merritt.amy@gmail.com or call 507.301.8992.

November is Japanese month at The Key, and this Friday the Key will be playing Akira Kurosawa’s Yojimbo. This movie from 1961 stars the excellent ToshirÅ Mifune who plays Kuwabatake Sanjuro, a ronin who comes to a small village creating turmoil and mistrust. The movie was inspired by the John Ford westerns of the 40s and 50s and was a major influence on the Spaghetti Westerns of the early 60s (Yojimbo was remade as the Sergio Leone - Clint Eastwood film Fistful of Dollars in 1964) and has been remade numerous times (ever seen Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis?). There is a strong comedic current throughout the film, so don’t expect a serious samurai film. The film starts at 7:00 (this friday the 16th).
