The Key’s Book Club has chosen the controversial book The Monkey Wrench Gang, by Edward Abbey. This book from 1975 is considered a primer and major influence on the militant environmental group Earth First and others like it. The novel concerns the use of sabotage to protest environmentally damaging activities in the American Southwest and tells the story of four vastly different characters and their push toward a common environmental movement. Books have been handed out (with one left) and the first meeting will be on Monday the 5th at 5:00pm (first 4 chapters).
The Northfield Skateboard Coalition organized and ran a benefit concert at The American Legion on Wednesday, October 17th, raising almost $400 from the event. Local bands The Hormones, The Earthtones, and Charlie Hussman performed at the event. Around 60 middle school and high school students showed up to the event to show their support and rock out to the bands. View a slideshow of the event here.
