Posted by Marie Fischer, September 28th , 2007.

French month is still truckin’! Tonight we’re baking Croissants and making delicious treats with salmon at Emmaus, 5:30pm FREE for everyone, and there are still plenty of open spots! Come to the Key at about 5:15 if you’re interested. Also, we’ll be watching Les Choristes at around 7:30 with the big screen. There’ll be many comfy couches for everyone. Je voudrais un croissant et un film! (That’s all I can say in French)

This is from the state press release:

The Northfield Skateboard Coalition has been named a winner of the “2007 Red Wagon Award” for youth civic engagement and youth leadership. The award is presented by Lieutenant Governor Carol Molnau in collaboration with the Minnesota Alliance With Youth.

The Red Wagon Award is given to individuals and groups that foster youth civic engagement and service, exemplary leadership, and/or increased academic achievement.

Nominations of outstanding youth efforts were received from across Minnesota. The Northfield Skateboard Coalition was one of only 3 groups selected for this honor.

Quote from Sarah Dixon, Executive Director of the Minnesota Alliance With Youth:

“The Northfield Skateboard Coalition is an outstanding example of what dedicated and determined youth and adults can achieve by working together WITH the community. I commend the leadership of Northfield for embracing an open process which has brought about better community understanding and progress towards a solution for a compelling community need. To everyone on the Northfield Skateboard Coalition, on behalf of the MN Alliance With Youth, we congratulate you on your significant achievement! You should all be highly commended!”

The Northfield Skateboard Coalition will be recognized at the Minnesota Alliance with Youth’s 10-Year State Summit on December 5 in Minneapolis, as well as a reception later this school year.

Before the award was presented, Ruth Amerman presented the city council with an update of their summer accomplishments.

The Key Shows its Humor at Jesse James Parade

Posted by Joshua Jude, September 10th , 2007.

The Key participated in its first Defeat of Jesse James Days parade on Sunday September 9th. After waiting around for three hours, The Key took up the parade’s rear (well, besides the police) and entertained onlookers with their very own kazoo band. The Skateboard Coalition, represented by a number of local skateboarders, performed in the parade with the Key, even carrying a rail for skate tricks. The Key also had their very own 4-person “barge” cycle for the event and lil’ bike superhero James Wilson. Thanks to Phoebe for the barge rental. Take a look at slideshow of pictures.

Art Project Update

Posted by Marie Fischer, September 4th , 2007.

The Key is in need of a banner for their appearance in the upcoming parade. It would be super good if anyone with any sort of artistic talent (or a great ability to draw lines and stay within them) is encouraged to make it to the Key tonight at 6:30! You can contribute ideas and help with the workload.
