Summer is nearing, and schedules are clearing. Movie Night is back, and in its triumphant wake, we will be watching Brad Neely’s “Wizard People, Dear Readers” which promises to be a night of laughs and “full of weirdo professors and goblin-faced women”. Be there, This Friday at 7:00 pm or you will be incinerated with any number of spells that I keep hidden, WAY up my sleeve.

The Northfield Skateboard Coalition’s all-you-can-eat omelet breakfast at the American Legion was an enormous success. The Coalition worked extremely hard from 8:00am - 12:30pm helping set up, greet people, clean up, and many odds and ends. The Coalition, in collaboration with the wonderful folks at The American Legion Post 84, raised well over $1000 and made a lot of friends in the process. For photos of the event click here and for history of the Coalition click here. Also be sure to check out Griff Wigley’s photos on Locally Grown.

The Key’s Writing Workshop program ended its very successful year with its annual reading. The program has rebounded very well under the leadership of Carleton College junior Kristin Ginger and the dedication of old and new school members. Participants of the reading read a “best of” of the school long writing program. The youth recited a variety of written pieces ranging from poetry, satire, the absurd, short story and others. Participants chose their favorite selections from the weekly program and recited their pieces in candid cantor (well occasionally). Wanna see some photos? Griff put up a post on Locally Grown that is most definitely worth checking out (even some audio).

Members of The Northfield Union Of Youth helped out with the regional Special Olympics and served in many different capacities. Ruth Amerman, Kellen Kirchberg, Marie Fischer, Max Jennings, Zane Anway, Special Olympic extraordinaire Allison, and Joe McGowan (L to R) helped out with the event, along with the not-pictured Spencer Foote. Key kids worked from 8:00am until 12:30 and set up the greatest cheering section you’ve ever heard (or seen). More amazing photos here. Griff Wigley was also on hand and took some more photos (both Key and non Key) at Locally Grown.

Members of The Northfield Union of Youth were present for the open public meeting at the Armory Tuesday, May 15th. This meeting was phase 2 of Northfield’s “comprehensive plan” for land use and development. This event was not as heavily attended or heated as the previous meeting a couple of months ago, but a large group still gathered to make sure their opinions were heard. The majority of the time was spent writing comments and voicing opinions on the 12 Development Principles that resulted from the meeting in early spring. Anyone with questions or for more info should click on www.northfieldplan.org.
